Hi, I have a friend moving from manchester to middlesbrough to work at the James Cook University Hospital and she wants to bring her horse with her but is having difficulty finding grazing within either walking distance or a bus ride away from her living accommodation, her horse needs to be turned out 24/7 due to health reasons, so far we have only found full livery yards near, does anyone with local knowledge of the area know of any such places? Thanks :)

you will be very lucky to find anywhere around here who will turn out 24/7 in winter,I don't know of anywhere.

Where is her living accommodation ?

Theres somewhere in Billingham does grass livery, and there is a place near Redcar that does as well. Both are just fields, no storage and no facilities etc. There is a yard near Stokesley does grass livery and has a school etc.

There wont be any yards within walking distance at all. I am wracking my brains to think of somewhere on a bus route. The only place I can think of i Upsall Grange, but they are very limited turnout in the winter. The yards in thornaby are kind of on a limited bus route, and would potentially be a doable on a bike, I think they are 3 miles ish if you use cycle paths etc. They have no winter turnout at all though.

Is she living at the hospital? If not let me know where. I doubt there is a yard in Teesside that I dont know about or havent been to look at at some point!

I have thought of somewhere! grass livery, literaly just that, but good hacking. About 5 mins walk from the bus stop the 63 stops at, and that runs every 10 mins from the hospital. The horses all live out in huge fields and the YO manages haying them in the winter, so might be doable. Its very much going back to basics though! But its only £10 a week if I remember rightly and theres definitely much, much worse places you could keep a horse!

Nope I mean the 63 that goes from James Cook to Redcar. I think on the way to Redcar you have a 10min walk as it stops the other side of the dual carriageway and you have to walk under the underpass and along a bit to the village, but on the way back its right at the end of the village, which is Wilton for anyone interested. Can you PM me if you genuinely want details as its a private yard and very much by invitation or recommendation only so I'm not going to post details on here and wont be giving out details unless you genuinely need them :)
