i have lots and lots of honeysuckle and wild roses climbing up some of the trees in my pasture and ive watched the horses carefully picking and eating the roses, they dont like the honeysuckle.
they also pick flowers off gorse bushes and pick blackberries from the hedge

what have your horses chosen to graze on which you wouldnt have expected?

Mine used to eat oranges, grapes and persimmons (Sharon fruit) off the trees in the south. Here he eats the really young gorse shoots - and gets his nose all prickled- I thought he had a rash until I realised what it was.

i like watching my lot eat the gorse, they are so delicate, must hurt if they get the mature shoots

Cherry tree leaves here - we noticed what a lovely old cherry tree was in the garden when we moved in - lovely flat bottom to it, beautifully pruned - to pony head height by the owners 3 rescue ponies.

Have noticed pony has sneakily been doing the same! She also likes to reach into the veg plot for the raspberry leaves.
