vet been out this evening and had a look at my boy as I was worried about itchy legs and also some scabbiness around the pastern area. She has said greasy heels and feather mites. So plan is dectomax injection ten days apart, but I have done some research and I can't see how the dectomax is going to help the greasy heels (will chat to my vet again tomorrow). Pig Oil and Sulpher seems to be recommended quite a lot, but I have a couple of questions and I am hoping someone can help .... should I wash the legs before application, or just let them dry in the stable/yard area overnight, brush them as clean as poss and then apply? And will the pig oil and sulpher take care of the scabs, or should I treat those first - and if so, how? And is it OK to use the pre-mixed stuff (like the Lincoln pig oil and sulpher) or is it better to buy the ingredients and mix my own? Also, previous owners had clipped his legs but I would like to grow his feathers back ... is it ok to not clip them again, but just to apply the pig oil and sulpher down to the skin (hair not terribly long at the moment)? Thank you!
