Took the Blackster out for a hack, it rained, we got wet, we had fun
But before we got to the good stuff, in the forest where we hack the gamekeepers keep young pheasants for shooting later on in the year.
There have been little pens with them in all over, we try to avoid them but they've put them into the huge pens that line a lot of the tracks we use now. We were going along the track (no way to avoid the fence runs all the way along the track) and a yellow digger and a jeep came along, i pulled Blacky into the side. They slowed down, i put my hand up to say thanks and the guy stopped and opened the door and said "Don't ride by the fence, go up there and all the way round" shut the door and drove off!
Obviously one of the gamekeepers but it's the way they talk to you!
Anyway, i couldn't be bothered arguing so went off up this track, and it just looped up a hill and back onto the original track.
It's bloody stupid! By the time you get to the start of the track, you've already rode along about half of the fence, and where it comes out, is right by one of the smaller pheasant pens! What is the point? And does he not think his digger and jeep disturb his precious pheasants?
Ok rant over
Anyway, went on our way and decided to take her up a track we've only done a couple of times to get to a great canter place. Went along the first of two tracks that lead to the same place (2nd one had another small pheasant pen along it
)
I was annoyed so i told her (yes i talk to her all the way along
) that we should run fast to vent our anger
She's never ran so fast ever
It was great, even though she whacked my face off a branch
Went back and she cantered by herself
Voluntary excercise from Blacky is a big no!
Then i tokk her to the two logs we can jump, and she didn't refuse once, and even jumped them as a double!!!!
Never gotten her to do that before
Headed home, and i took my feet out the stirrups coz my ankle hurt, and she took off again!
Cheeky cow
None of that will seem a big deal to you, but after her winter off i said i'd get her fit before i leave
And when we started we were on walk and a tiny bit of trot and now she's doing 3 decent length canters, and voluntarily!
And she was ahrdly even sweaty
Sorry that's really long and self-indulgent!
