ive just started hacking on my own(which ive never done with any horse) with my loan horse and he's an absolute star-the first few times we hacked out together he was quite spooky but now a month on he didnt spook once-really feel like we're making a good partnership now-never had that before-its great what were you all up to?
I got to that stage with my loan horse last year - he was pretty spooky as he hadn't been out for a long time before I bought him - and ended up buying him this year. We have been working on the hacking ever since. He's miles better now, but still capable of becoming a quivering wreck at the sight of a leaf out of place! My friend showed me a longer hacking route on foot yesterday and I can't wait to get out and try it.
Didn't get up to anything interesting this evening though, weather put me off! So it was a groom, trying on of a new rug and then home!
its amazing Edie82 sounds like your doing well with your horse! yeh think im going to go exploring for a longer hacking route aswell!
i was really lucky with the weather went to yard-pouring down, tacked up-sun came out fantastic lol x
Sounds like he trusts you and that you're forming a good relationship. What a lovely achievement. Onwards and upwards.
My own horse came from a trekking centre and wasn't used to going out on his own but we started with little hacks and gradually built up. Didn't really have much choice because no one else at my yard rode out at the time. I actually like/prefer hacking on my own. It's a great confidence builder.
thanks carow and mrs m, dont know if i posted in your thread before and really sorry to here about LC he looks like a little superstar and for the canvas i think the 1st working hunter pic is fab they both look really happy xx
im starting to hack my girl out alone too - its not the HGV's or tractors scaring us - its those Sabre tooth pigeons!!!
Cant wait to build up her confidence and get out more!
Sounds like your having great fun! Well done you!
I took my boy for a 10 mile hack round Quenby in Leicestershire, he was an absolute star. The only time he spooked was at a small stone wall, which was opposite a big hole that was filled with blue pipes. I do hack on my own sometimes, which i have only just started doing, but i do look at the weather, if its bin day etc and whats going on in the area, but we both enjoy it. Our only problem are cows, my boy has got a thing about them ( scary black and white monsters).
