As I was de-rugging this morning I pondered on one of the great horse mysteries of time ...... how on earth do they scrub so much dried dirt so deep into the spring that you can't get the clips undone to get the legstraps off

?

What's your favourite horse mystery?

why is it that every time I put my horses rug on I have to adjust the belly straps?!
There's always 1 that's either too short or too long

Because when I used to ride him he bucked me straight off! Couldn't stay on him for more than 5 secs! He would be brillant hunting otherwise, he is proper fast when he gallops round the field refusing to be caught, little sh*te!!!!!!

Lucy can undo kick bolts to she kickes the door in just the right spot so the bolt eventuly flips over. Once years ago she let her self out of her stable and so she wouldn't get into trouble she let all the other horses out to! It had to be her she can even undo those horse proof bolts. We have no idea how she does that!

Horses that lose a shoe in the field - and you can never find it!

Or that you find months later lying in the middle of the field. We even found a shoe, in perfect condition, from a horse that has not been near our field for two years

How my horse can remove pull on overreach boots without splitting them using only hooves and teeth when a human requires four hands.
Take a field rug off and leave all the straps and buckles in place.
His mother could remove the farriers apron without him or anyone noticing until he stood up.

How my piebald can manage to get perfect poo marks on only his white bits and under his rug. Black areas are spotless and shiney.

D can undo her kickbolt and escape.

Will happily jump out over 4ft of electric fence if she doesn't hink there is enough grass in her field.

The best one was at my old yard when we couldn't understand how she seemed to be jumping out down a steep muddy hill. Somebody caught her at it and it turned out she was climbing under the electric fencing gate by going flat out and then skidding underneath on her knees. Wish I'd seen her do it but she would never have dared if I was there.

how they can get a rug off without undoing any of the straps!! this rug had a neck cover so 2 straps on that as well as belly straps, front and leg!!

My favourite horse mystery is: how do Shetlands teleport?

I swear, I will glance at the field and he will be on the correct side, head down, munching. I glance away FOR A SECOND and he then appears on the WRONG side of the electric tape, 100 yards away, head down, munching. How does he do it

Good question Arabelle. I would like to know that one too.

But the greatest mystery of all:

Whatever the amount that goes in at the front end, why does it always come out at the other end at least 10 times the volume?

Ah yes, the backwards out of the rug trick! I'd forgotten that one, it's so long since any of mine did it.

Does it start at any particular age? My two year old can't seem to do it yet, when do I need to watch out for it?? Or maybe the dun ones lack the gene for teleportation?
