I posted the other day about if anyone remembered Ray Howe and I got a few replies so I thought I would let you know how I got on with my lesson.

Well it was brilliant and Bodey tried his little heart out. He started out with changing where I held my hands, more together and really working Bodey up. It really improved the power in the trot. Then moved onto canter (even did walk to canter) and he said I really need to work on stabilising my lower leg as it moves (said my big shires boots didn’t help so an excuse to buy new ones). But did say that Bodey trots like a cob but canters almost like a TB, think that was a complement!

Then onto the jumping, started of my just seeing what I did and funny enough Bodey put no effort in as I just sat there. So then he really got me to ride Bodey, really powerful but not fast trot and then on the last stride to really keep my leg on, and wow, that worked and Bodey flew. Then he got me jumping a related distance, one stride, first putting at a Bodey stride and then pushing it out until we could do a horse stride (well that’s what we will have to do if we BSJA)!

We ended up jumping 3ft with a decent spread, I was so chuffed.
I am definitely having more lessons with him as he figured me and Bodey out so quickly, and everything he told me worked! He was also quite complementary about Bodey, which was lovely considering he is use to teaching posh SJers!!

So some photos, sorry they aren’t great quality as they are from videos but the having trouble uploading the videos as the moment on photobucket! I’ll keep trying.

So I can totally recommend him Kent people!

Isn't it great when you find instructors like that? Sounds like a lesson well worth having! Well done glad to hear you had a good time.

How much is it per hour & do you have to go to him or does he come to you. I do have a brilliant instructor, but she's £30 an hour, and then you have to add travelling, so to find an insturctor just as good but cheaper would be nice.

He came to my yard and was £40 for an hour, however he did come from Tonbridge. I had a lot of fun and felt I learnt a lot, so worth the money I think!

Who is your instructor just out of interest?

I have Rachel Silk, she focuses more on dressage but I've done a bit of jumping with her - she had me jumping a 4ft spread on Boomer when I'd never done any more than a 3ft3 upright! But she always gives you really good results with everything. However, you have to be prepared to work hard, which is why she doesn't usually teach kids - I am the exception

Looks like I'm going to have to put up with that in my room all night.

I was one of your original replyers and said Ray used to be blond, lanky and good looking!

Glad you had a good time, big improvement there by the looks of things. If that was Ray in the pic, sadly he looks to have shrunk and broadened out, a lot like me in fact!

I watched Jo's lesson and i have to say i was really impressed. I think it's the best I've seen them both go. I really liked the way he was very straightforward and made everything seem so simple, it was also nice that he was so enthusiastic and didn't seem to be in any hurry.
