seems like these days nothing goes right with horses! Got a all this afternoon to tell me that my yearling had gotten his hind leg stuck in the fence and he has managed to lacerate it in two areas near his cannon, so he's in the box for month with a bandage and currently feeling a bit sorry for himself! The good news is that he hasn't appeared to damage any joints or key ligaments/tendons so thank god for that!

Any tips for keeping him entertained in the box? Being a curious youngster I have a feeling that by tomorrow afternoon he will have had enough  someone suggested installing a mirror into his box to entertain himself with as he isn't stabled next to anyone?

Any suggestions/advice welcomed!:D

*sighs* with you!
My boy was on boy rest for a month or so when he was just 3 y.o
He really surprised me, was good as gold and seemed very content.

Likit's- haynets EVERYWHERE- I mean hanging from the ceiling style!
Not sure about the mirror- think my fella would have spent all day liking it...
Salt licks- different flavours in all corners
Turnips are a godsent, kept mine going for ages and don't get them hyped up atall :D

- and this may be strange.

But a full bale of shavings in the corner- unwrapped... maybe my boy is just rather odd but he fairly enjoyed kicking it everywhere! :D:D

So sorry about him slashing his leg open- youngsters  , but all the best! :D

my girl just had surgery yesterday to remove an ocd lesion and will be on box rest for 2 months following with light in had walking before going into a paddock size of tennis court and she is 10 months old

my mare - albeit a lot older, had 6 weeks box rest at the beginning of the year. There were loads of great suggestions on my thread - do you know how to link a thread in to a post cos I'll do that so you can have a read!

Apples in a water bucket if you don't mind your floor getting wet. They soon catch on but it's still a bit of entertainment :) Mine's been on boxrest for seven months and the best way of entertaining them is actually spending time with them you'll probably find that he comes more desperate for human contact when he can't be with his buddies. :) xx
