Just doing my routine sweep of the adverts to see it I can find a reasonably priced project with a bit of prospect and have found this.

web page

Would you a) not touch with a Barge pole, b) snap the buyer's hand off c) approach with caution.

I'm not looking for the next Milton, but would love something to bring on as a novice dressage/ SJ.

Any comments appreciated

I would approach this horse much as any other, in that ask the right questions, go in with your eyes open and don't be swayed cos she's cheap. She does seem rather too angelic and I would always ask why a horse hasn't been ridden but she looks a nice sort.

I think she looks quite nice. Give her a call and find out a bit more first.

I would try and get more information. She looks a nice mare conformation-wise, so even she turns out to be unrideable for whatever reason she would make a nice broodmare with her breeding

First find out if the seller is a dealer. Ask as many questions a relevant ie. is she open to vetting etc. Then if still interested go and see. But don't make a hasty purchase just because of her nature on the ground. Ask to see her ridden as even tho she hasn't been ridden for a while I would expect to see a saddle on her back and a rider on board.

The reason a mare is unridable is very important!! if you want to breed.

Just ring, there not giving much away in the add, then you can decided if its something worth taking on and if its worth looking at.

I saw that add when I Googled the phone no, and wasn't 100% if it was the same horse - looks like it though.
I have emailed the seller ( I know it's not ideal but I'm at work and can't use phone).

I am hugely wary about things like this. I would hate to miss an opportunity as she sounds perfect, but like it has been said on here, they're not giving much away and at that price I may end up with a killer horse that was doped up to the eyeballs just to have the photo taken

I would ask why she was cheap, then why she was half price, and why she didnt sell.

I buy cheap horses, but I wouldnt buy that one...good cheap horses dont need to be advertised.

That mare has issues, I can smell it!!!!

shes also been for sale for a while starting off at 2 k originally. also on one of the ads theres a different name/email.

me smelling a fishy

Could it be that the owner just desperately needs to sell though? If the owners wouldn't mind her being vetted I don't see any reason not to go and see her. Although, I suppose that depends on whether or not you would mind working through any ridden problems that she may end up having. It wouldn't put me off as long as a 5 stage vetting is allowed and if possible with my own vet - no harm in asking is there.

The horsemart advert seems deliberately vague. No harm in phoning but do LOTS of homework. It may be a case of wrong horse/wrong owner or the mare has been badly schooled. Just because a professional has done it doesnt make it correct! The seller obviously has a few doubts about the horse as a riding horse, however you may disagree!
