After reading other threads regarding the RSPCA I was very doubtful about contacting them but when the horse we had been keeping an eye on was injured on top of being very thin I phoned them right away and to give them credit they responded right away. I phoned yesterday and they visited right away and even though the owners couldn't be found, its a field situation without a house, today they arrived and took the mare and her last years foal away and she is receiving veterinary care. They even left a message for me to let me know. Very impressive. This is the RSPCA who would deal with the Nottinghamshire/Lincolnshire border area. Great result for the mare and her youngster.

I have never had a problem with the RSPCA,they have always turned out and taken necessary steps when i have contacted them.
there is a lot of RSPCA bashing on this forum and it can give a false impression which can result in people not reporting neglected horses, which doesnt help the horses one bit.
I'm glad of this post and the good result. Well Done OP.

I've always had a good response from them whether I have contacted them regarding a wild bird or animal or a dog or horse. They have been excellent.

Good result

I still believe they do a good job, they are overstretched, but do their best.
We should stop complaining that they do a bad job and start educating people and prevent the abuse happening in the first place.

Must admit I have always gone to the ILPH as a first resort. They have visited very quickly and kept me posted on the outcome of their inspection.

Well if anyone had been in my shoes you may have different thoughts, my issue is that they do not investigate correctly and check on 'bogus' information. It will take a long time before I gain any trust with the RSPCA and other organisations would definitly be my 1st port of call.

On another note it seems bizzaar that they did not remove the mare and offspring before whilst they were in a poor state yet due to a field injury they do - although your post did not say if the injury was life threatening.

Sorry I must sound awful but I have read far too many cases were they are not handled in an appropriate way whether persons being wrongly accused or horses dieing before any action is taken.

Great news for once I guess!

Though when one had to ask someone I knew where the horses tendon was as she 'wasn't familiar with horses', that shook me slightly.

Totally agree, not had a good outcome from them yet and I deal with them a lot in my day job. The last horse they were asked to visit died 3 days before they turned up from starvation. They had been notified 7 days earlier but didn't bother to visit. Horse was so thin and weak it collapsed and had to PTS.
