Great short xc vid on EN...

WOW! Full marks to them both for making that look so smooth and continuing on to part B like nothing happened!

But I'm most impressed that the horse thought he could jump the whole thing in one go in the first place and then gave it a very good try!

And that perhaps it's not such a great plan to ride on such a forward stride to a jump like that. ;)

Yay, horse and well done her for sitting tight but watching it made me feel a little bit ill. If it had gone the other way no one would be congratulating her.

Reminds me of being at an unaff where I watched several people come into a (much smaller) bank: step up, two strides, fence, one stride, step down. I watched six people into it. The first two came in so fast they bounced the step/fence part, the next person did it properly, then the next three got one stride where there should have been two, then the final person came in too fast and had a stop. I then went and rewalked it because I thought I'd got it wrong, but no, it was definitely a two stride distance! Terrifying.

I guess it does depend on the horse as well sometimes, I remember a mare at an old RS of mine who would always bounce a stride double no matter what canter you came in.

Fair cop to the horse though, looks like they planned it!

Full marks to rider for sitting quietly through this heart stopping moment!

Have walked this combination myself and would not have said this was a possibility.

I am sure the rider will adjust her approach on the next similar combination after that fright!

A few years ago my daughter got it a bit wrong at MKEC approaching two big step ups and came in too bold and plucky strong pony could not lift ......clambered up but catterpolted (? spelling!) my daughter along the ground. Fortunately neither were injured but definitely changed her approach in future!

Well done to this young lady for her ability to ride so well in a situation that could have gone so wrong!

yes... very lucky that it was a low log at the top edge and not an upright, the way they used to do Normandy banks... the consequences would have been very horrible.
does anyone remember the Barbour Zip at Gatcombe one year? it was a big step up, bounce over big upright rails. it was a bit of an optical illsion, horses were misreading it and/or riders were coming in too strong and a LOT of very good experienced horses and riders ended up on the floor, one after the other...
