Am totally delighted with my boy today - on Friday night we finally got out to a local Riding Club SJ league (Mini-midi-maxi) - it was out first time jumping in an indoor and was very busy, lots of screaming kids, whizzy ponios and a very green me! Once I finally relaxed he went quite nicely in the warm up, was a little fizzy but in the circumstances he was great - we just went in the mini- 75cms - just wanted to get around and see how he reacted and he was a little star....we had one stop and the second of a combination which was planks....totally my fault as I had decided going in he would stop at it.....as Niamhy says in her siggie...what's in the brain goes down the reins!

There was a dog-leg and a couple of tight turns (one I completely overshot and I just said 'to hell with it' instead of circling and he cleared it sideways with only a stride to sort himself out....loving my neddie!)

Then on Sunday a guy from the yard took him hunting for me - I wanted someone else to take him out the first time just in case he exploded or raced etc. and he went really well - took a bit of a pull and was a bit careless over one fence but all in all was a little star
He rising 6 now (6 in July) and have had him since April so I know he's a little behind in his experience but what the hell, after 9 months I'm really starting to feel like we're going places

Oh thats great to hear!
Im so glad he went well for you on Friday and no doubt the days hunting will do him the world of good!!!

Well Done

I am really glad for you. Mid January everyone needs a pick up and a boost and you certainly had yours this weekend. This great feeling will carry you through winter and make it all that more enjoyable.

Thanks folks!! - we're jumping again on friday night and hopefully the following Friday my YO will take him in the midi or maxi (85/95 cm) as I am out of the country

It's all building up to me bringing him home to live with me in the summer which is terrifying to say the least (still have to build stable, buy trailer, change jeep etc.) so need to get as much education into him as I can now while I have the support & safety net of being on livery.

We don't want to take over the world but for about a month there we seemed to have hit a brick wall so it's great to be making progress & also great to be able to get him out to do the things he enjoys.....hopefully in a few weeks will be brave enough to hunt him myself.....

You're going great guns!!

I'd let other man hunt him the first three times, its suppoed to get easier after that. No-one told Dixie, though, we've been going weekly for 4 months and we still have our moments! Still, she'd hate for me to be bored!!
