green hay

had problems with my horses eating hay and local supplier has a hesston bale of meadow hay,nice and soft and smells good but looks a lot greener than usual .obviously its made from last summer,but is it likely to be different to the normal pale green stuff. i am becoming totally neurotic about hay as there is no pattern to what they like .farmer has offered to take it back if they dont like but want to check re the greeness.

If its dry, and not mouldy, any hay should be fine by now. We've had two lots of hay this year - one lot was green, the other was golden. The green is far superior. Does it smell sweet? Sorry you said it does! Try some - see if he likes it...
