Vet coming first thing tomorrow.

No other symptoms. Pony still very jolly out hacking. No changes in behaviour. Eating fine. Teeth were done in July, vaccinations up to date.

Noticed Bo had a slight, whitish/greenish discharge from one nostril on Monday. Coincided with a new batch of hay which is a bit dustier than the last so wasn't too worried. Less on Tuesday then none yesterday. Seemed to clear up and he was quite happy so hacked out yesterday and he was on fine form.

Fast forward to today, fine this morning...went to bring in at 4pm and he's got green discharge dripping from both nostrils. Still otherwise OK, no temperature, happy in himself.

The weather here has been absolutely abysmal. Apart from yesterday we've had torrential rain every day and he prefers to stand outside the field shelter getting soaked for some reason. He is clipped and rugged accordingly.

Just looking for some reassurance really. I suppose I'm worried that he's picked up either a bacterial or viral infection from somewhere. We have been out and about to different venues recently and had group lessons.

Unfortunately I have to work tomorrow so husband is meeting the vet.

Horses at a previous livery yard had that. Their owners, and YO, done nothing about it despite their horses being ill. They had coughs accompanying the green globs of mucus outside their stables.

Unsurprisingly, Chip caught it, and I got the vet out ASAP. He was scoped and samples were taken. It was a bacterial virus so he went into NSAIDs and antibiotics.

Unfortunately it left permanent damage and he was left with [mild] asthma.

Yours sounds different as no coughing. You're doing the best thing getting the vet out straight away.

I hope it goes well and that Bo is back is back to full fitness as soon as possible x

Couple of weeks ago my chap was bit quiet on a hack, followed by breathing too fast. Got vet out said OK temp, no snot, just breathing slightly fast. Nextday some snot and still subdued, day after breathing heavy, green snot, depressed, glands up and temperature. Emergency vet took swab, nothing showed up so not strangles or.... gave him couple weeks off and seems fine, Cough took a while to go but was just one occasional cough.

Not sure if any help but vet said lots going round

I'm astounded that they did nothing about their horses being obviously ill!

All the more galling that it was Chip, who was seen quickly, who ended up with a long term health problem because of it.

Hopefully whatever Bo has is mild. 🤞

Thanks M.

I wonder if these things can brew for a few days before they go downhill.

I don't think this relentless wet weather helps.

Vet verdict is that he's probably picked up a bit of a virus when we've been out and about that's led to a sinus infection.

Temperature, breathing etc all fine. He's got antibiotics and bute for a week but I'm to call him straight back if he gets any worse.
Sounds about right! Good news ❤️
