Green snot. One nostril

Something else to worry about. Bella had some new hay on Monday evening. That’s the only change. Yesterday morning green snotty nose. One nostril. Rung vet. They said take temperature as could be strangles. Which sent me into a tail spin. Temperature was 38. Bella is eating absolutely fine. In character absolutely fine. No lethargy etc. Took temp this morning and it was 37.2 so again good news. Still has snotty green nostril. Vet out tomorrow from Linkswood. I’ve never had green snot before. Edit to say no coughing. No heavy breathing etc.
 
any lumps in the face. Wonder if a tooth root infection. Happened to a friend. Her horse was loss of use for bridle lameness. Turned out to be a tooth abscess
 
My first thought was teeth. Wig has effectively a dead tooth. It's not causing any issues at the moment so we leave it well alone and the dental vet checks him every 6 months. One of the things she's told me to look out for is not coming out of the one nostril on the same side as the dodgy tooth.

Teeth we’re done 4 months ago. She’s just turned 8. Although you don’t know what’s happening in the gum line.

If she's broken one or given it enough of a whack for the root to die (this is what we assumed happened to Wig as it was fine at his first few checks with me) it can happen. It may well not be but worth considering if other things are ruled out.

It's not uncommon for the tooth root to be infected without showing obvious tooth issues. The only way to be certain is to xray . Poiintless treating the possible infection as it will keep flaring if you don't resolve the cause.
 
Mine has super sensitive airways/lungs after having had pneumonia and if she has a flare up it tends to only be one side. Monitor and if you’re worried have your vet taking a swap and/or do a scope x

Emma from Linkswood came out. So… she looked inside mouth. Teeth look fine. No loose ones. But obviously we don’t know if it’s a dental issue and only an x ray would pin point. No swellings on face. She tapped around her front face to see if sounded hollow. No obvious lumps in her windpipe. Lungs clear. Temp 37.5. We are hoping it’s a combination of very dusty ground in the fields. New batch of hay. And an irritation that’s flared up. She’s very sensitive to dust and pollen anyway. On antibiotics two scoops a day until tub finished. IF there is still green snot during the course and/or after the drugs have finished, then it’s x ray of teeth and sinus.

I've had green snot before, once quite some years ago and another time a week or two ago. (First time in both nostrils, recent time only in one.)

I don't remember feeling particularly bad. And on both occasions, I found the green snot interesting. Husband was throwing up at the mere thought 😂
