Green velvet hat in showing. Is it allowed?

, ever since I was little.

I'm getting a new shows jacket (if I can decide which one!) and need a new hat to go with it, since my present navy one has somehow managed to aquire a splash of paint on it

Jacket will be green tweed - could I wear a green velvet hat with it? Go on, please say yes!

It's to show this little man, who's a really rich (almost chestnut) bay skewbald, to make a nice MW show cob type (though want to show as a traditional if he grows enough feather)

If you want one get one, depends (I think) what level you want to show to! If you go to county levels etc I think you require a navy hat with flesh leather straps, brown gloves and cane, canary jods and all that jazz..... but I think the hat has to be navy (mine is a black one with flesh straps... but the judge is so far away I am hoping she wont notice!

I only show at local level, and have a black hat with black straps. So long as you're smart at local level really, unless you get a really picky judge!
 
Some of the mountain and moorlands have hats of different colours, and some coloureds also do the same. However, this is usually brown. Traditionally, ladies should wear a navy hat (ideally with flesh coloured harness).

Most people would wear a navy hat with their green tweed.
 
I think you get as bit more leeway with hairies and M&Ms with regards to colours - if you've got your heart set on it, I'd go for it.

I wear a black velvet hat and black gloves to show my black horse and have never been pulled up over it.
 
Iv been pulled over a few times at local levels for not wearing correct kit, but I think if its for a hat! the judge must really be grasping at straws!

Of course you can "get away" with having black gloves etc, but (for example) if it is more correct to have brown gloves, and the cost is the same, then why not buy them?
 
I would personally go for a navy hat with green tweed looks the part and is more correct than a green velvet hat.
No offence but I dont particularily like the green velvet hats.

Why not buy a navy hat it looks so much more smarter Imo but its totally down to you, you shouldnt be marked down for it but some judges are different.

Obviously what you do is your choice but I used to show a coloured the same kind of colour to yours and always wore navy hat and green tweed jacket.
 
I have a friend that shows to high level and has a green outfit.

Shoe does BSPS etc with her Welsh C's as M+M and working hunter and has fantastic success.

Go for It I like the colour of the green hats if matched with the right tweed and horse colouring.

EEK! Having just looked into the PRICES of green show hats I'm not so sure I want one any more! £100 is the very cheapest I could find - I stopped looking after it got to over £200

For a hat that, if I drop it, I need to replace.

I could really do with a nice show hat. I had a very expensive navy one until I left it (along with my green tweed jacket) at a uni comp and never saw it again

and it was way nicer than the cheap ones. But I can't afford two decent hats, one navy and one green.

I'm still torn between what's 'correct' (although having seem the 'correct' weight for show horses, I don't have a high regard for most judges opinions

) and what I'd really like. I've always want a green one, but the only reason I'd be spending stupid money on a hat (much prefer the sensibly priced Troxels to actually ride in) is to show, so getting it right is important.

Decisions desicions...............
