I have got my mare a Greenguard Grazing Mask this year and should be grateful for advice re fitting. I have read the instructions and fitted it as per their advice but she is managing to get her top lip through the gap between the headcollar noseband (I have the Greenguard headcollar) and the mask and is guzzling grass this way. I tightened up the front buckle and loosened the back one and this stopped that trick but she is now getting her bottom lip out the side of the gap at the back. At present I am trying to get her used to it and haven't left her alone as I know that as soon as I turn my back the crafty madam will have a go at getting through the gaps and I am worried that she will get sore as a result. Any hints or is it really trial and error?

I had this problem when I had them. It got to the point where it was tight all round to stop her getting her lips through. It then started to rub as it was so close to her. In the end I gave up and bought a best friend muzzle. Cant recommend them highly enough.

It will take a bit of time to get the adjustment right on the muzzel. On mine I've got the top fairly tight up to the noseband & it acts a bit like a hinge. Then I adjust up the rest of the straps & the muzzel is then fitted. It doesn't need to be up tight against the horses mouth, it hinges up against the mouth as they eat. Once you've got it fitted on the headcollar you'll not have to touch it again.

They are marvelous masks, pricey but without a doubt the best........the other muzzel buckets are far too restricting. Greenguard is the only muzzel which was designed with an input from vets. Persevere with the fiting, you'll get it right soon

i had one for a pony i had and i couldnt get it to fit either, she would just scrape it on the ground or the fence post and pull it off, which was a shame as it was the only one i liked in the fact she could still have some grass, in the end i gave up and bought electric fencing.lol

Thanks for the advice everyone. I thought I had cracked it this morning, she didn't seem able to get out of the front but has found a new escape route out the side - and I thought warmbloods were thick!! I shall persevere.

Sorry to report, I tried one with my mare - when loose she managed to eat round the sides, when tight enough to stop this it cut her all around her mouth and chin.
Binned it and bought electric fencing (also I didn't like the way it stopped her interacting with her herdies).
Good luck if you persevere though...
