I am experimenting with muzzles this year for my houdini pony. Historically she has had the shires bucket type which she is happy to wear but she gets off over her small ears when she rolls despite trying various ways of fixing it on (various headcollars, plaiting, vetwrap etc etc - she just pulls her own mane/forelock out and now has none!). This year I am trying a Greenguard headcollar with the extra throatlatch/neck strap bit with a Best Friends (like the Shires) bucket muzzle attached as this has worked on another mare at my previous yard.
My question is - how tight should the extra throatlatch/neck bit be? I need it to be effective so she can't pull it over her ears but don;t want to risk any injury/issues!
Anyone got any pics of how tight theirs are? Molly is an awkward size too. I bought a cob greenguard headcollar which is far too small, so have a full now but that is a little big all over. Grrrrr
I am not using the Greenguard muzzle itself ( I already have one) as she gets them off to the side and doesn't like them but she accepts the bucket type.
