Changed his dressing again today and it's all looking so, so much better. No swelling at all. Scabs coming away nicely with fresh, pink skin underneath. I did turn him out this morning while I mucked out . . . just put an overreach boot on over the dressing to try and keep it dry(ish). He was much less averse to me handling the wounds today so the bute is helping. Today's dressing is supposed to stay on for 48 hours so if the rain keeps up that will mean him staying in - unless I can figure out how to gaffer tape a placcie bag to his leg/foot to give him a couple of walks .

Have to say I lurve Flamazine. Fab stuff.

Bit of a dilemma though . . . once dressing comes off on Tuesday, if it's still wet out what do I do to keep mud fever on his heel clean and mud free? I don't want to keep him in indefinitely, but surely the point is to keep the skin as dry as possible while it heals. I suppose I could continue dressing it and hope the vetwrap and the overreach boot do their jobs.

Will be ringing my vet tomorrow.

Of course I want him well and recovered. I also want him well enough to go out team chasing next Sunday . . . vet reckons that's doable . . . but if there's any doubt about either of those wounds he's not going.

I would cover it with a dry dressing and plastic bag while he is out, with a hoof boot and vetwrap over it to hold it on. Although may need to breathe and dry out? It's so tricky when the weather is awful!
