Me again - sorry! I have seen a Golf advertised that I like the look of but I am not sure if the boot will be big enough for the lurcher. It is difficult to guage from pics and I would rather not waste my time viewing if he is not going to fit. The floor area looks fine but just worried he might not actually be able to stand up.

I've got a Seat Leon which is a very similar size - my big GSD can fit in the boot standing up just about, but only sideways not facing forwards.

How about being sneaky and asking the local VW garage if you can take him down there and see if he fits in one of their display models? It's a legitimate question!

i work in a vw dealer, i doubt they would let you put a dog in the back to be honest! What Mk golf is it? the newest is a Mk7, and the boot doesnt look big enough for a big dog to me.

Do you have any VW dealerships in your area where you could go and look? Or if you go to VW's website they might have the specs online or you could contact them to ask for more information. Sorry, but I can't be of anymore help.

Billy the Kid - it is an older Golf. 2001, so has less of a sloping back.

would imagine thats a mk4 then, too old for most VW dealers to keep as stock to sell. I've asked our senior sales exec here; he says the Mk4 boot will be no bigger than the new Mk7. The biggest booted golf will be a Mk5.

Hope that helps.

What about a stuffed toy that is the same size and shape as the dog?

Or... get a similarly sized child to pretend to be the dog, offering payment in sweets or comics?

OR - my fave - get the SALESMAN to pretend to be the dog.

Ha ha, I'd def go for getting the salesman in the boot!! that would make my day here at work.

The Mk5 was made between 2003 and 2009.

my friends have a huge dog and when trying cars she always went to the car dealership to jump in the boot to test it out!

I've had a very large greyhound in the boot of a 2002 Golf hatchback, and now a smaller girl in a 2010 model. Can sit, stand, turn around and lie down stretched out.

I have a mk5 estate and although it's an estate the headroom should be the same. My weimeraner can stand up easily so I should say your greyhound should be fine.
