these collars are a lot wider than an average dog collar because whippets and greyhounds have quite long necks and they do not have a lot of bulk so it is more comfortable for them.
I think traditionally it was because their necks are relatively slender, so the collar was wide to give a lot of weight bearing area when the greyhound pulled on the lead? Not that a greyhound would do such a thing of course
As acolyte is not going to reply....she gets like that
, she is so in demand, and writing her second book.
It's because a normal collar would slip of their heads, as most dogs have a bigger head then neck, whips/greys, there is little if any difference, with the width of neck and head, those collars are designed not to slip over the head

See, can u not give the girl a link to your, even more specially designed whip/grey collar site.
Totally agree with that - our lurcher is a very good escape artist - the wide ones definitely work better - harder to slip to over the flat ears and narrow head. Also work better on our very fine coated lurcher who's neck rubs very easily - she has quite a delicate neck.
We bought ours from pets at home. they do nice brown leather ones with a bit of padding on the inside
