Greyhounds

it's not for me. A friend has her heart set on a puppy though I've suggested a rescue. My rescue cat is the best thing ever :)

Any suggestions for places to look? In the North West

I believe that young greyhounds, if they don't chase get binned fairly quickly so your friend could find a very young dog in rescue (less than a year old). Try telling your friend that she will have a grown dog far longer than a puppy anyway.

They are truly wonderful creatures.

There are plenty of pups in rescue here, and youngsters, one place takes them in batches and the trainer refers to them by number. I will actually ask next time I pick up food, the guy I buy from supplies greyhound tracks, how one goes about getting a surplus pup.

Snobby I know but I would steer clear of Gumtree, Preloved, Donedeal etc.

I got my greyhound at 18 months old from a rescue :) he still acts like a puppy and is the sweetest/craziest dog i know. Please don't write off older dogs they still have plenty of life in them!

Or ask a breed club for recommended breeders:

I wouldnt bother with the breed club to be honest, greyhounds are (ironically) classified as a rare breed by the Kennel Club and last time I looked only about 50-odd puppies were registered each year? Which is absolute madness when approx 10,000 puppies per year are bred in lreland for the greyhound racing industry :(

Try www.grwe.com - there are frequently puppies available through this and other greyhound rescue charities, due to in-whelp bitches being dumped :(

I would try greyhound rescues as they do sometimes get pups in and more frequently lurcher puppies if not fussed about being full grey. Racing bred pups are advertised on Greyhound data (most are born in ireland), could try putting an advert on or post in the forum to see if anybody knows of pup needing a pet home. http://www.greyhound-data.com/

Personally i'm happy to adopt them past 2yrs once they've matured a bit and skip that puppy stage lol.
