I am hoping someone can tell me what to expect with regards to my two year old pony greying out. He has lightened quite a bit since i bought him

I am wondering if he will go dappled and over how many years they tend to lighten up and also whether he may keep his black points and dorsal stripe. Any help would be great thanks

Any other comments welcomed (is there any other way on HHO? lol) I dont think the pony is overweight, the fencing is bad etc... but I'm sure people may have views on this!

Don't personally think he'll end up dappled.

Most horses i've known that have greyed out have been fully grey as they will get by the age of 9/10 years old.

I hope that he goes dappled as it would really suit him, however you never know with greys. My grey's sire still has beautiful dapples (he was born chestnut, like my girl), but she was white by two and is now fleabitten.

Does a dapple grey ever stay dappled for life? This greying thing confuses me! I always wanted a steel grey as a kid - do they stay steel grey for life?

I don't think he'll dapple... Smokey is greying out (aged 8!) and is dappled, and his dapples are very clear atm. He does look like he's glowing though, as he's greying round the 'edges' first, and is very dark in the middle :D Reckon your boy will go quite white quite quickly...

Oscar seems to be greying in front of my eyes. I thought for some reason it would take years and years!

I'd love for him have darker points and a darker mane and tail but think thats probably optimistic by the sounds of it

Thanks everyone for your answers so far :)

I think I read somewhere that the dappling is an extra gene on top of whatever colour the horse is. That's why you can get dappled bays etc as well.
