basically since i got her a couple of weeks ago, abby has been grinding her teeth, so we're gonna get the dentist out to see her.

what confuses me tho is she has no problem eating or ridin, the only time she ever does it and seriously no other time at all, is in the morning when shes a moody moo gettin her rugs changed, anyone else's horse do this?? never had a horse do it before??

(oh and i have started to go up earlier, and bring the horses in together so she's not so stressed, just till she settles down thanks for ur advice everyone on that last post!!)

it's usually tension. try to ignore it, if you can. it's far more annoying when they do it under saddle...

its just such a horrible noise, should i be concerned since its just for a couple of seconds a day?? i'm still gonna get her teeth checked since she is comin on 16

Lots of the horses at my work do it when there being ridden and my own horse does it when she gets bored they all get their teeth done every year and have never had any major probs. Think its just the way some horses are!

I had a horse a few years ago who used to grind his teeth constantly - and in the end I stopped riding him (me and my sister shared a couple of horses). However, after having his teeth and back thoroughly checked, and getting him and keeping really fit enough for the work he was doing he stopped doing it.
I believe it is tension or stress (he was a TB drama queen!) and once he realised that actually it wasn't all that stressful to do a bit of work then he did stop.

I would recommend to check all possible avenues for any stress causing - back, teeth etc

Don't worry about it. It's tension / stress. My old horse did it when ridden & the more I let it bother me, the worse he got. Horses teeth are constantly growing & wear down when they eat so it's not doing her any harm. Just make sure you get her teeth done frequently in case she wears them sharp.
