Grooming blocks?

I was wondering what peoples thoughts are on grooming blocks?
I was recently advised to use one to help my yearling shed out his winter coat as hes shedding but then brings the question of does it damage the summer coat that is coming through.

I sometimes use one on muddy clipped areas and then brush off with a dandy brush. The problem is, that the grooming block leaves it's tiny particles trapped in a long fluffy coat. I generally use an old fashioned rubber brush and a magic brush on faces and legs.

Thats good to know. I was worried it would. Ill give it a try hes shedding a fair bit.
