Which one do you have?

I have been looking at the Shires Deluxe Grooming Box http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ainge-and-Co-Ltd-Grooming/dp/B00NFJUNFA

But am starting to think that a toolbox may do the job and be better value for money! Have been eyeing these two up (based in Ireland, store is local to me):

Stanley Tool Box http://www.woodiesdiy.com/Product/stanley-series-2000-tool-box-41cm16/9677/1.2.4
Generic but bigger Tool Box http://www.woodiesdiy.com/Product/49cm-19-deep-toolbox-organiser/36624/1.2.4

I'd like something big enough to store most of my grooming kit (LOTS of brushes, hoofpicks, plaiting bands, white spray, hoof oil, wound cream etc) that also has an option to split it in two so I can logically divide my kit into day-to-day and lesser used items.

I'm afraid to buy one TOO big in case it's a bit overwhelming, but would like one that's a decent size and sturdy. I currently store my entire kit in a tray similiar to this
tack%20tray.jpg
so anything will be a step up!

Interested to hear what you're using to store your kit and any recommendations?

I use a tool box lol in the bottom is my hair dryer but could be for taller spray bottles etc and in the top is t'other stuff. The little swivelly bit at the bottom is full of elastics and the two top bits are for hair nets/baby wipes. Great seat when at a show!

I use an older version of the Stanley toolbox in your link and it's great. You can also stand on it for plaiting etc. Just remember to do up the latches before you pick it up or whatever is in the top tray goes everywhere!

Wow equi your one is MASSIVE! Think I'll be getting a smaller one than that :)

Cowpony - is your Stanley toolbox similiar in size to the link I posted? Worried it won't be high/wide enough for all my stuff :O

I used a smallish tool box like the first link you posted just for brushes etc and then a decent sized plastic box for all their lotions and potions.

Difficult to tell. It says 16" and although I haven't measured mine that's probably about right. But it depends how many brushes you have. I have a body brush, curry comb, dandy brush and rubber curry comb. With careful packing I can get them all in the bottom part along with a fairly large bottle of mane and tall spray, a bottle of fly spray, a pot of Renapur, a pot of Sudocreme, a large sponge, several small sponges, a roll of vetwrap and some babywipes. You do need to put it all back one particular way though. It's not tall enough with the top tray to get hoof oil in standing up.

I have a Stubbs stand on one. Just the right size for stuff, and very sturdy. £30. Mine is yellow and I have also had a black, and still like new 10 years on!

Hmm. I think the good thing about the tack tray was that there was no height limitation. Maybe I'll get the higher one. Be best if I just went into the shop and had a look I guess :) I like the top bit where I can put mane combs and fiddly bits that get lost in the grooming kit!

Cowpony I really like your one! Might have a look online!

Yes I love the tray and the two snap closed storage spaces in the lid. They are perfect for plaiting bands, thread etc.

Bahahahahahaah!

Thats how they get revenge after hours of standing in a wash bay being washed and plaited!

That aim could not be any better

Like Red-1, I also like the Stubbs ones (I think they call them 'tack steps'). I have two, a black and a green one. They don't have any internal compartments, but I have a pot in each to keep hoofpicks in.

Nato - that was exactly my reaction: "Oh noooo!"

Dusty85 - yes, if he had moved only a tiny bit, he would have missed the box. Stood there as if butter wouldn't melt...

I've had it for so long, I can't remember for sure. I think the grooming box was a Stanley (from OH's stash in the garage, shhh).

For my main first aid box I also wanted something quite big, which would hold all the essentials, and which I could just grab and run with if needed. That one is also a DIY type box but it's from Wickes - it's not got their name on it.

I have two. My every day box doubles as a mounting block/stand. It has a tray ideal for scissors, hoof picks etc. The tray lifts out, and there is a decent sized compartment. I can cram quite a few brushes into it, along with hoof oil and a packet of baby wipes. Brand is Roma

For comps, I have something similar to the Fat Max NaeNae87 posted. It's purely for competition kit. Bottom compartment houses competition bandages/travel bandages/bell boots/tail guard and bag. A small draw has competition warm up white boots and bell boots. Another small drawer has all the plaiting stuff. Then the lid lifts hinges open at the top, and there is a big compartment for make up, fly repellent, good brushes, hairspray, shiner spray... basically everything needed to get the horse ready to be tacked up. It's on wheels and I can take it to the horse.

I have a Stubbs saddle mate for tack, basic grooming kit, hi viz, hat and gloves.

I use a bucket for the rest of my kit, or if we're out and about. Plenty of room, easy to keep clean, and spray bottles hang off the edge.

I've got one of these in black. I've had it 11 years & it's as good as new. Far better than the silly plastic ones well-intentioned folk keep buying my daughter.
