I'm trying to work out livery costs for full liveries, and whilst I do most of the work myself I'd like to get a part time groom in to help.

The work would be mucking out 6 horses in the morning, give hay etc, and skip out in the evening, feed, hay etc. I might look for more than one groom as one person might not want to do both ends of the day.

Can you give me a rough idea of what I should expect to pay? I've heard variations from getting a freelance groom at £8-12 an hour, to full time grooms being paid £120 a week! A big difference...

That sort of set up wouldn't really be able to offer enough to attract a good full time groom unless you paid them properly.

It does sound much more like a freelance set up. Depending on your area your estimate of £8-12 per hour sounds about right.

I'm not sure of my hourly rate. I get just less than 13k PA .

I work a 37 hour week, regardless of horse numbers. Yard / field / arena maintenence are a big part of my job too. Will you be doing this yourself?

IME it is hard to find somebody willing to come in for afew hours, leave and come back again. On a small wage that is twice the petrol!
