Anyone tried it? Success or failure or somewhere in-between?

Or perhaps Astroturf? Some people use that for cattle....

The only stuff I've used for horses is the plastic, interlocking grids-but with rubber matting on top for a temporary (I say that but they are still there 2 years later) standing area for a couple of ponies. Does work.

We have put down rubber mesh stabilizing matting in a gateway. What an improvement! Would recommend it however we did put some limestone chips under it to give the ground some help and it's just fine now.

Yes, I have the plastic and the rubber matting in several gateways (not both together). They have to be installed properly, not just thrown down - a dug in pad of gravel or larger rock with the mats over, and finer gravel dressed over. Either work very well, with the plastic being more solid.
