Hi all,

Just wondering how much ground work people do, mainly before the backing process, but all opinions greatly received.

I appreciate there is no hard and fast rule and everyone has their own ways/ideas but just interested to hear theses.

Thank you

Lots! Mare has PSSM and extremely weak core strength. If I could wind the clock back to when I started her under saddle I would have done a lot more groundwork to strengthen her up because I can see it paying dividends now.

We had a great session on Saturday where I popped all the jumps in the jumping paddock down to poles on the ground and trotted her round them in hand (so sort of lunging, but not in tight circles). We've got a slight slope in that paddock too, so was able to use it to get her working her bottom better.
