I want to level an area to school on.

The area is on a camber of about 1 - 2ft slope down the short side.

The long side is relatively level.

Would I be able to do this reasonably with a mini digger? Dig up soil from one side and carry down the slope to the other to make a level 20m x 40m schooling area, that is currently grassland and to remain as such?

I've never used a mini-digger before. I guess it would be fun!!

Would I be able to do the work in a day, let's say, 8hrs work, without over-exerting the digger?

doubt it!

When groundworker did our stables, we thought it was on level ground and turns out there was a 3 foot difference and some 70+ tonnes of soil was shifted! This is an area smaller than a schooling area

VictoriaEDT - Of course, I'll measure it out to see what the drop will be. Any sort of flattening will be better than it is already!!

I would advise against any sort of DIY levelling job. If you have no excavator experience you will more than likely make it worse. You would have no chance of doing it in a day. Theoretically if you were to move just 1 inch of soil across a 20x40mm area you would be moving approx 32 tonnes. Get a professional in with a laser level. They will do it in a fraction of the time and it will be like a billiard table when finished.
