Anyone ever been?

I’n considering going if I can afford organise transport. My friend is keen to take our mare, which means I will be taking my old boy. He’s done a lot of hunting in his life with me but is now 26. I’ve been umming and ahhing because he is semi retired now but having seen its a meet in the square at Bawtry and a 15/20 min trot to the second meet I think it could be doable and quite frankly it would make his year. We could get picked up from the second meet so it would only be a very short ride. The tractors have just gone down the A17 tonight on a protest and he immediately went into full alert thinking it was the Hunt. 🙈 He isn’t clipped which is one issue and he is a s*d to clip so not like I can just take a bit off him. He won’t be doing anything like this this winter either so seems a lot to get him sedated to be clipped when he won’t need to be clipped after this and also at his age I don’t like to sedate too often if possible.

Just wondering if anyone had ever been and how manic the meet is? As obviously I don’t want him doing too much physically but he would love the atmosphere and chance to show off.

Ok thank you, it’s not an introduction as he hunted from the age of 9-19 big Quorn and Cotts country. More just a little outing for a horse that absolutely lived to hunt. I might not even get transport yet but I will have a think.

Well sometimes we just want to turn up and be part of it, but don't expect a full day's hunting. If that is what you are feeling and you know that he will behave in a crowded situation = which is sounds as though he will, why not\\\/

I've done the same in the past and got my photo in the local paper.

Oh no I’m not expecting ANY hunting. Literally going for the meet and a 15 minute walk and trot to the next village where there is a second meet for the actual hunt where I would get the lorry to come and collect us.
 
I live in Bawtry. It is literally in the middle of the town,(very small town) so no fields/grass/loose horses or other animals. Last time I went down, it was quite packed, with lots of people watching but quite calm - I didn't see any horses that were more than slightly enthusiastic. I don't ususally go though, so can't guarantee it's always that peaceful.
Parking is a short ride away, on the edge of the town.
 
It sounds like a very doable plan. Will they charge you a full cap though, which might be pricey!
And it’ll probably take ages to get him cool and dry, so factor that in.
 
I’m no longer going as the guy I usually use for transport isn’t available. He’s the only person for miles around I know with a 7.5 tonne that does transport and my boy doesn’t like travelling in anything smaller so I can’t ask anybody else. A little disappointed but I believe everything happens for a reason and if everything isn’t aligning we aren’t meant to go for whatever reason but thanks for all of the replies. 😊
