My cob is going to be 22 this year. He was retired last year due to an injury.

Every winter till till this one he has gone out everyday whatever the weather as wasn't happy stabled during the day and would barge etc but always wanted to come in at night. This winter he has decided that he doesn't like going out and wants to stay in. He has trashed my paddocks, upset my youngster and is basically being a thug to bring in. Today he decided to take off up the fence line scaring my young boy badly. Then When I fetched him I could barely hold him, (he is a 15.1 traditional cob and I am 5'11 so normally don't have any problems) we have mini ponies for company so he wasn't on his own.

He only gets hay and a small feed at night which is a small handful of happy hoof, NAF veteran supplement, garlic and mint.

It it is like he is a different horse. He is happy stabled for days in a row I can walk him in hand round the arena, in the past we couldn't do this without drama :) and I only have problems bringing him in.

Anyone else's oldies disgracing themselves this year? I have no idea why he has changed and am hoping for better weather soon to see if that improves him. I am stuck at the moment as he is being so bad I can't ask anyone else to do anything for him, my mum used to bring him in for me when I was at work in the winter and has done so for the last 7 years but is now terrified of him so he will be getting his wish to stay in :)

Don't even start me!

Damn 28yr old thinks its fun to refuse to be caught at night - literally runs round me snorting and squealing whilst I freeze to death or get soaked ......... old git!

Same here with asking other people to do him - no chance of a night away, he refuses to let anyone else within about 10 meters of him grrrrr!

Alf galloped full tilt across the field, failed to stop and nearly went straight through my field shelter and out the other side this evening. He was THAT determined that the mares weren't going to be fed first. He's the boss, so gets first dibs on all the feed bowls anyway, but he cannot stand anyone getting a mouthful in before him. Definitely getting sillier as he gets older!

Glad I'm not the only one :) I thought he would slow down as he got older not get worse. Can't believe the 4 year behaves better. I can leave the youngster for weeks and just tack up and hop on when I want with no drama, last winter when the old boy was in work I once tried to hack him out on the weekend without lunging him first and he bucked all the way down the drive!

My mare has ood too, got back from jumping B1 a couple weeks ago, nipped to get L andB2 in so she wouldn't be alone. B2 who's 7 and an ottb didnt put a foot wrong, L who's a 34 yo shaggy 15hh Irish knocked me down and dragged me the length of the field on my face. Filthy mud head to toe in my jumping gear, a 16.3 tb trying to keep up withoutstepping on me and my newly surgically constructed jaw planted in the ground, fortunately it survived!

Do I need to say hubby has turned out and brought her in sin e!
