Growing pains? Or something else?

I have noticed that Ronnie (approx. 10 1/2 month old Bedlington/Whippet lurcher), when he's relaxing, quite often lies down with his front paws (one at a time) in his mouth - with his mouth gently around where the growth plates would be. His growth plates have pretty much disappeared now, and I don't think there's much more growth in him at all, except for some filling out. He doesn't chew on his paws or anything, just gently mouths them, and he doesn't seem to be in any pain - but it just made me think, could he possibly be getting growing pains? Could this just be "just him"? Or could it be an early symptom of something else? (We don't know his background, as he was one of a "dumped" litter, taken to rescue - so don't know anything about the parents' heath history etc.)

He seems to be perfectly happy and healthy in all ways - so I don't want to rush him to the vet - but I wanted to know if those of you more experienced than I have come across this before - because if it did turn out to be an early sympton of something, then I couldn't bear it if I found out at a later stage that I'd not done anything about it until too late.

Thoughts please?...

Bracken went hopping lame, £900 later it's growing pains!!

Doesn't sound like anything to worry about unless it starts to show in his mood/movements. X
