Growth from scar on hind leg

Hi looking for any thoughts/advice. I have rehomed from a rescue centre a 5yo thoroughbred gelding whom had an injury whilst under the centres care. He caught his leg in barbed wire fencing in February of this year. It was under vets supervion and took time to heal and knitt together again and was finally signed off in July as being sound and healed together, with visible scarring. I took on the horse in August and no problems have arisin from the 'old' injury but noticed that a small growth (5p size) has now appeared from the scar almost wart like and bleeds very slightly when touched or rubbed. It has an uneven texture and is hard. Doesn't seem to bother him and otherwise in good health. Have been keeping it clean, hibiscrub etc. Any ideas as to what it may be? Thank you
 
Could it be a sarcoid? My horse had a wire injury which took time to heal and the vet told me that those types of wounds could develop sarcoids. Might be worth getting the vet to look?
 
It does sound like a sarcoid .
sarcoids that develop on wound sites can be very very serious you need to seek specialist advice quickly.
 
My boy has a keloid from an injury prior to me buying him. It's just overgrown scar tissue and it doesn't bother him. It has bled a few times as he has knocked it on a few things over the years. I would defo get it checked out especially as the others that have posted say it could be a sarcoid. Better safe than sorry. Hope you get it sorted.

Some horses are very prone to keloid scaring (proud flesh) and the tissue does bleed profusely although relatively painless to the horse. If in doubt though - get vet to check it x
 
Is it pink or grey? If grey - sarcoid, but if pink it will be proud flesh and might indicate there is contamination of the wound site, maybe a bit of dirt/debris got in there at the time of the injury and hasn't been expelled.
 
Ditto the above. I had a little mare who was hit by a car, and she grew a crop of sarcoids along the line of the scar on her chest from the wound
