Have you used the growth hormone for young horses? I’m curious whether it works for the overall growth. My friend told me that she used that for her 2 yo and it helped him gain few inches. What’s your experience?

I think it would be an extraordinarily bad idea! Totally unnecessary, numerous side effects and hugely unethical

A few inches I find impossible to believe , a few inches is at least last three a huge amount for a horse .
I have never heard of this being done to horses .

This is a really peculiar question from a first time poster, newly joined.

I've never heard of anyone doing anything so stupid, just buy a bigger two year old in the first place!

Artificially accelerated growth can lead to a multitude of musculoskeletal problems. Not quite the same subject but have a look at: https://extension.okstate.edu/fact-sheets/managing-young-horses-for-sound-growth.html - In particular: Growth promoters and repartitioning agents are examples of chemical agents that are used in meat-producing animals to influence growth. Some have been used illegally in horses in an attempt to increase the rate of growth or percent lean tissue, but they have met with few positive results and have had serious adverse effects which limit the future productivity of the horse. Therefore, the use of such drugs is not a reasonable alternative.

But who does it? I've never even heard of it in decades around horses. This forum is a mine of information, again never been a topic that I can remember. You have a friend who used it, presumably illegally as growth hormones are prescription only drugs? Where did your friend get them from? Where did she get dose advice from? Why did such a bad idea even cross her mind?
