Was at schools sj comp today, missed a turn and had both parts of a double dow, (fence 3) turned to fence 5, and the (less than 13yr old ) children doing arena party where running across it!
Had to pull out and redo fence, was raging though, (although went clear afterwards!)
Anyone else had this happen?

When I competed BSJA at North Bucks County Show one year we were in the jump off and I turned to the last fence - a wall - and the blooming course builder was putting the wall up so I yelled at him and the crowd were screaming for him to move. I've never seen a course builder move so fast - he throw the secion back in the wall and jumped to the side just as I was about 3 strides off. Luckily he moved out the way quick enough and the horse went clear and won the class. Know one knew why he started to change things as there were 5 left to go in the jump off after me. all we can think of was that he was trying to get ahead and forgot it was still in the jump off course.

My friend had that happen at a BE event earlier this year, there were about five children putting up SJ poles, but between running about they were sat in the corner of the arena throwing sand about. Very off-putting for the spooky horses. Then as my friend was going round the course, they were being too slow to put poles up from the last round and were in front of the double when my friend was approaching. Everyone yelled at this child to run but unfortunately it was the person on the opposite side of the jump that they turned to (so turning away from the approaching horse), and the child only just turned round in time to see my friend's 17.1hh thundering up to the jump. The horse managed the first fence but killed the second one completely, but the jump judge discounted the penalties. Poor friend was left fuming, the children were still throwing sand half an hour later so friend's mum went up to them and told them off! I hate having children doing things like that, but I suppose often they're the only ones willing to help out.

OMG RachelB, are you saying that your friend continued to jumpthe fence knowing there was a child on the landing side! Surely the competition wasn't THAT important (or was there no other escape route which often happens in the small arenas?)
