She doesn't exactly savage them but she's nipped my pointer a couple of times enough to scar her and bit the end of the soft bit on her nose once (took a bite off it) which must have hurt a lot!! I've just come home from Holiday and my BT was being a bit pathetic and kept yelping (he is a bit like that) but had a dig into his hair and looks like he's had a bit of a JRT tooth shaped punture wound in his shoulder. :-(

She's not really aggressive as such she's just a silly little terrier, get's super excited and nips really hard!

Any idea's how we could stop her doing this? Or a comfortable muzzle she could wear? She has a vey tiny head!

Thanks

JRTs are rugby-ball shaped for a reason.....

Sorry, I'll stop there :p

I wouldn't leave them all alone unsupervised if possible and I'd give her a rocket if I caught her starting anything. Not batter her, just with voice and body language, stop it and remove her from the room, isolate her.
You should become adept at spotting when she is *thinking* about having a go and I would step in at that point.

I would actually stop thinking of her as a silly excited terrier and think of her of a rude dog who is getting away with biting other dogs, if she was a Staff or a Rott she wouldn't get away with it and if she tried it on with a Staff or a Rott she definitely wouldn't get away with it!
Plenty of dogs lunge and warn and snap, there is a difference between a nip and a bite which is intended, she is making contact and making holes which is something completely different.

She's really odd though she doesn't do it around the house or anything but my mum has another terrier, and joined with mine (so 3 of them) they are just rediculous when they go for a walk! Really really stupid. That's when she seems to do it, like she just can't control her little My mum is the least strict dog owner ever so I doubt she will apply any dicapline. She looks after them when I'm away and walks them when I'm at work but she normally just walks our two so they are safe then. :P

You'd never think it to look at this little dog because she's as fit as a fiddle but she's 9 now, I'm wondering if it would be easier just to get her a little muzzle? She tends not to start on my mums dog, either that or her teeth don't make it through her fur!

My mum used to have the most lovely staff x (like a lightweight version of a staff) and the mni JRT used to really try and pick fights with her, loads different to with mine, she (Fudge) would put her back up and nip Buffy (the Staff x), Buffy battered her a couple of times and it seemed to egg her on!

Fudge and my dad definitely have their own little pack though, where as (in my mums houses), it's her, her dog and my dogs in their own pack. I guess this is the issue?

I know it must be lovely to have a "one man dog", but I do think it causes problems!!

Agree totally with CC also a bit of blue pipe can work wonders, makes a hell of a noise but doesn't hurt - that much and if it does so much the better. If it had done that to my dogs I'd probably have booted it to kingdom come and back again as long as it happened in my presence of course but if not just be very ready the next time and don't leave your dogs alone with it, it sounds a nasty piece of work to do that much damage if supposedly playing.

I can't understand it because my mum didn't know it had happened - she's not a Fudge fan, she would tell me. I think she must have done it when they've been legging it around the fields being stupid.

I've seem my dad smack her when she's looked like getting a bit funny round at mine (not being cruel just trying to put her in her place) but she doesn't seem to give a *****!

Funny little dog.

Blue pipe, or my fella used to be quite well-acquainted with Mr Rolled-Up Newspaper in his teenage phase, bit old school but his head hasn't fallen off yet and better than him being a prat and hurting someone else's dog or getting into a massive fight and getting hurt.

She probably does respect your dad but no one else.

I would go for a basket muzzle as some fabric muzzles can still facilitate biting. Dunno where you would get a teeny tiny one though.

Thanks, we will try!

My little Alf is from that up north CARLA country, does she still come on here? Bless him, he knows the news paper alright! He HATES being in trouble and is a perfect boy..

Rolled up news paper has little effect on the pointer... she see's it as a massage lol! x

Perhaps you should also talk to your parents to be more switched on about this dog nipping. Behaviour tends to escalate and this dog could well take on something that won't tolerate it and will retaliate.

"That up North CARLA country":D:D:D WTF are u on missus, yes im still here and of course Alfie is perfect (he came from me):p tell that jrt I will b down to sort it if it keeps on with that bullying;) but yeah what everyone else says, you need to step in (where very you see her botchy temper raise it's head) and reprimand her. She must associate her behaviour with knowing it's not going to be tolerated.
