Went out for a lovely hack this afternoon with 2 of my friends. Just plodding along chatting, when we notice ahead, a young boy with his parents and 2 dogs who were running about. The young boy was kicking about a football, so as we approached, my friend called out and asked the boy if he would not kick the ball until we were past. The boy stopped kicking the ball, so as we went past, my friend said thanks and said that sometimes, horses find footballs really scary. The boys Dad then said "Well, you shouldn't bring them out then". Friend said, sorry, but if your dog was scared of the horse, I would be courteous and walk past so as not to scare it if possible. Guy then got really nasty and started saying that us "Horse People" think we are really special and high and mighty, and that we think we own the forest. Friend pointed out that we do pay for the priveledge of using the forest, and he was all "Whoopy Doo". There was absolutely no need for his outburst and it did some what spoil our ride. I often meet people with young dogs or children that aren't used to horses, and if asked, will always stop and let them say hello. Why do some people always have to assume that horsey people think they are special, or high and mighty?

Afraid to say, that I did call him an arsehole!

Guess he is judgemental and/or has a large chip on his shoulder. His attitude is his loss not yours - At least you were more than reasonable.

god some people! u really wonder where they get there cr*p sometimes! theres a man who lives on the heath near me and he has a horrid yappy terrier. it has chased me on a few occasions will im out on buster. on 1 ocassion he came out in fornt of me and kept barking an wouldnt let me past. (buster was totally freaking out by this stage and he loves dogs!) i shouted and shouted until the owner came out to which he said that he couldnt get it as it was just puppy (puppy or not it was a plan nasty dog!) . i said well my horse is a baby and he dosent no the difference. he then yabbered on about how i was trying to go down a footpath whan it was clearly a bridleway (blue arrows every where.) i then told him if he didnt pick it up and move i would go and fetch joe (he stops for no1 and nothing) and run the dog over. he then picked it up but failed to do much after (ie: put a gate up!) the stupid thing recently got kicked in the head by a pony and dosent have the bottle to leave the front door anymore!

Lots of horse people are up themselvs, and ruin the reputation of the rest of us.

Riders literaly look down on anyone on the ground. That with the fact that horses are expensive.... easy to see how riders apear snobby.

Isn't it an in-built thing because us horse people are ABOVE them literally when riding so they feel they're being looked down upon! I read that somewhere.

Well done on keeping your calm.
