bit of a rant!

earlier this evening 4 youngsters hacked passed my house, it was going dark - street lights on etc. They bothered to have exercise sheets on.... Navy ones!
a bit later when i was on the way to my yard, i drove past them on a side street.... obviously they werent even hacking straight back to whatever yard they are from... the nearest yard would have easily have taken 20 minutes to hack to. I would have been pitch black when they got back to their yard.

WHY do people do this? isnt is obvious that if your going on a long hack... and will be back in darkness that you NEED to make sure you are seen?

IF a youngster did that on my yard, or even a yard i was stabled on i would have to suggest to them that they get something reflective! do their fellow liveries not care? or are they just as bad?

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr - it annoys me that they can be so so stupid!

When they're hit up the bum by a car and end up in hospital for a week im sure they wont think high-viz looks stupid!
Just a pair of reflective brushing boots, or a hat band or even one of those browband covers wouldnt hurt would it?
Makes me so cross that they would put their horses in so much danger, accidents happen so easily

Please do not get me started on this grrrrr - sorry to say I have given up with ppl on my yard - i have tried to explain time and time again but wooooshhhhhhh in one ear out the other. My daughter would not dream of riding out on a sunny day with out reflective gear let alone at on grey winters day- there again she as been brought up thinking safety all time and she also had lots of fun growing up with her ponies before folk think im a kill joy pmsl :)

i recall as a youngster - i would ALWAYS at least have a reflective cover on my hat when hacking out - others passed 'funny comments' but it never stopped me wearing it.

i realllllllllllllllly wanted to pull over and say something to them, if i had some hi-viz stuff in my car i would have happily given it to them, so at least the one at the back had something on :(

i just hope they got back safe :(

I think all this stuff about it "not looking cool" is just a stupid excuse. It has never actually occured to me that I don't look particularly awesome while wearing hi-viz so I have never had a problem. It's the parents that worry me tbh, what kind of parent wouldn't try to make their child as safe as possible?

Its just stupid! And as for the not looking cool excuse, riding johdpurs, boots and straw look isn't going to be seen down the catwalk! They need to get over themselves and put on some blinking reflectives!!!
