wel very confusingg but... we have a whole big field tht is split into loads of paddocks and our YO is going to fertilise them tomorrow but it only sinks into the ground when it rains.. so we have to get half the field in ( bariing in mind most of us are 24/7 living out.. which isnt to bad for half the field as they are easy but then on the other halff we have to bring in a wild mare who was attempted to be broken in.. and then gave up as was too naughty allso a 17hh huge horse called roley who is rarely bought in and when he is.. he cant be tied up as he doesnt like it.. we also have a 10hh 3 yr old stallion tht is barely ever caught and a 3yr old rig that is scared of people... so once we have caught half the field we have to bring them in keep them occupied and then when they can go out turn them out quickly and bring in the other akward half! but the rented YO s off at cricklands a horse show for 4 days and without telling us about the fertiliser so have only found out today and its tomorrow... we only have 6 stables and lots of space to tie up! but any ideas on how to keep some very akward horses and ponies occupied? any ideas welcome >:(

Didn't think you could turn out on fertilizer straight away. May be wrong though but may be best to check!

We use 20:10:10 and this year also tried another that is supposed to be specific for horse grazing and both packs say it is 10 days before stock can go back on to the grazing. Defo worth checking with the supplier I would think. Good luck, hope all goes well

Well if you want to poisen the lot! Yes turn out next day, 10-15 days before turn out. Am surprised the YO hadn't worked out what needed doing, unless you are still on winter paddocks???

wel in the end he fertilised them all with the horses in there and then wen we asked him in a panic was it bad for horses he picked some up ate it and said its nitrogen (salt) and is fine for all horses

I'd watch him closely:p:p I did my paddocks 3 weeks ago and have only just put my horses on them today but brought them in tonight. you have to give the grass a chance to grow a little and putting them straight on to land that has been done can make some of them scour badly, I've even known cattle to scour badly when put straight on to grassland just fertilsed.:o
