My first event report..
Was kind of an up and down day- arrived and got him out the box to find he had somehow pulled a shoe off during transit! so spent ages trying to find the farrier, missed my dressage time and then had to wait 2 hours for another slot -rubbish.
luckily he's a chilled out sort and wasnt too fussed hanging around, sauntered down to warm up, did a quick 15mins and went straight in. Overall it was a nice obedient test but was shocked to find we had got 30 and were lying in 4th place! this score from a horse which in the past few yrs has been consistently scoring 40s - i was so worried that he would never do a decent test but all the time schooling seems to be paying off.
went back and got changed for the sj; we had a quick pop over a couple of practice fences as he gets wound up if u jump too many before a round. We jumped a nice steady round and i tried my best to hold him together as he tends to get a bit strung out and careless. I felt he jumped really well but was unfortunate to roll 2 poles with his stupid dangly back legs!

Onto xc, arrived in the collecting ring to find someone had broken a fence so More waiting around... eventually our turn came but along came someone more important and shoved infront. Anyway, zoomed round the course up to fence 18, a couple of skinny brushes which he popped over nicely; but looked ahead 2 see the other rider just about to jump fence 19! so some quick pulling back on my part (as we were fairly motoring until that point) but got really confused as 'm sure the steward had told the other rider to get out of the way.. well by the time i got to 19b i was so pre-occupied with where this other rider was that i forgot to ride to the fence and we ground to a halt with front legs in the water! Poor sanka had a change of heart and scrambled back up, so i quickly turned back round and did the alternative.
Finally ended up in 15th place but fuming with myself for not riding to the fence

, and also a little annoyed with the other rider for not listening to the stewards..
I suppose its all good experience and i will certainly know what i'm doing if it happens again, i just wish i wasnt so easily distracted

Never mind, it's all a learning curve, and at least you know you can do it in the dressage now! For next time, I'd yell TRACK at the top of your voice until the other person gets out of your way - I had to do that to someone course walking at Longleat this year, you have never seen anyone run so fast!
