So, I won a saddle on ebay yet once the bidding had finished and before I had paid I was sent a 'transaction cancelled' notice with the seller saying that they were sorry but had sold it to someone else and their daughter had forgotten to cancel the sale before it had finished.

I gave neutral feedback and advised that in future it may be worth stating in the advert that the saddle was also for sale elsewhere, and that I suspected that they had only cancelled the transaction as it didn't make a high enough bid, therefore also put a reserve on it as disappointing to think you have won to be then told, sorry not for sale.

Anyway, just looked and it's back on ebay with a reserve! So annoyed, cheeky begg*rs!

Probabaly nothing I can do, just needed to vent! Hope they can't sell it!

I think you could legitimately complain to ebay. Sellers have to provide a good reason for cancelling an auction and I think you could have grounds for a valid dispute here. Someone else on here with more experience as a seller may be able to correct here but I'd give it a go!

You can complain to ebay but they can't exactly DO anything. They can't force the seller to sell to you.

No, but there are sanctions available and I'm all for stopping this kind of behaviour. I'm a huge fan of ebay and use it a great deal and it does annoy me when this sort of thing happens as it puts other people off using it.

Good for you for reporting them. That's exactly the kind of thing which puts more and more people off of using Ebay.

Well they have investigated and told me this -

We have investigated your report and I can confirm that we have taken the appropriate action against the seller "******" for breaching our Seller Non-Performance policy.

So hopefully this will put them off doing it again, so tempting to name and shame but best not eh?!

I agree. I know so many people who have been put off using ebay because of a bad experience and it's such a shame. I find it a complete godsend and have completely refurbished my entire winter walking/riding wardrobe for under £150 - two Toggi jackets, four Musto/Toggi/Ariat fleeces, one pair of breeches, one pair of waterproof overtrousers and some gloves as well as a spare pair of gaiters!

That's right, they can't force the seller to sell to you. However, by relisting the item, they are definitely breaking ebay rules. You might not get your item, but the sell should get an ebay slap.

Good on your for complaining, that is definitely against the rules!

Lots of people I speak to dont like ebay because they have had a bad experience like you have, I however LOVE it, having just won a gorgeous Stubben dressage saddle for £250 including postage :D
