This is really starting to bug me!!!

I am really keen to get Mr C out to some small local shows just to give us both the experience of competing but lack of transport means that unless the show is within hacking distance AND I have someone to accompany me AND the weather is good, we can't go - and how often do you think that happens - so far never!!!

We may have our first show this weekend and I am praying for it to be dry!!!

There's also a dressage comp at a local RS on the 25th and then a 3DE in September which I quite fancy (well the dressage part anyway) but I can't even plan in advance as it's dependant on so many other things and I don't want to register, pay my fee (which needs to be done in advance) only to have to pull out because I don't have some to hack with or it is peeing down.

Sorry for the rant but it is really starting to get to me and my RI is constantly asking "when are you going to get out and do some showing and put these lessons to use?", erm whenever some kind person buys me a trailer perhaps?

Does anyone else have this issue??

I have the opposite! My RI also tells me to go out and about to some shows, I have a lorry but only use it for going out and about hacking!!

I'm sooo not competitive, I just want to ride around as many fab place as I can. Going to the beach for a holiday in Sept for 3 days

I have a friend who has no transport and would love to do shows, but the cost of a second hand trailer is mad! The fuel as well is a worry.

I don't have transport either so I know where you are coming from! We have managed to hack to a few local shows - once in the pouring rain, we did our dressage test looking like drowned rats!

Is there not anyone who you can get a lift from? I find some money for diesel and wine is a good bribe!

I have the same problem. I have a trailer but my rat bag of and ex took my lovely Merc 4x4 away as part of the split. (he got it for me as valentines present last year but kept it registered in his own name!) So I have nothing to tow with........ I have now sold me trailer so I can buy furniture for my new house so am resigned to no showing or outings for the rest of 2008!

It's soooooooooo depressing!

But you're not allowed to do that anymore!! its classed hiring

I would offer to take my friend ( i use that in the loose sense of the word) but she has only ever given me £20 for diesel, we have been out several time, and I've just had to spend £700 on my lorry to get it through its plating.

A friend of mine has the exact same problem, she's fallen out with her aunt (the aunt tryied to make her work when she'd just got over glandular fever then got concussion when a horse hit her while wearing a big bit and nearly fainted!) who has the lorry but she qualified for BSPS summer champs but now can't get there! God knows whats gona happen come HOYS etc.

i'd never take anyone on my transport...(not now we've given up the transporting business)..

its just not worth the hassle...for a £20 here and there.

ins/diesel/tax/wear and tear /potential damage done/danger of friends horse getting injured....the list is endless....

I don't have transport either but I love competing and I have a youngster so it's important to get him out and about.

I can't hack anywhere (no local shows, plus we can't walk over cattle grids in the New Forest!) so I save every penny in order to hire a transporter once a month.

I have to plan about 6 months in advance as the lady I use gets very booked up over the summer and we will go rain or shine because we only get to go once a month. Yes it means that I myself live on a fiver a week but it's the only way I can get my horse out and about which is more important

i have this problem i cant drive yet so cant borrow a trailer

not like tabs would go in anyway
i have a friend who takes me the odd show they go to thank god
grin.gif
otherwise i would never go anywhere i always give them as much diesel money as i can afford but its a battle to give it to them as they insist i am doing them a favour by their horse having a m8

its a shame you havent got a good friend who has a box who may want someone to have a share in

I dont have transport so I have to hack to shows! Luckily though there are 3 show centres within 3 miles of the yard, but yes its a bit of a pain if it rains!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one in this situation!!!

I would like to start saving up in the next few months and possibly buy a small horsebox in the next year or so but I need to get out and about a few times to decide whether or not I actually enjoy showing!!!!

There is only one livery at our yard with a trailer and she has only just arrived so it's a bit cheeky to ask for a loan of it plus it would require me getting my friend (another livery) to tow and using YO's car so again, a lot of if's and maybe's!!!

Nevermind - if I manage to get to this show on Saturday I'll be happy although the forecast is non stop rain from Thursday right through to Sunday so the show might not even go ahead now!

looked into it carefully after nasty trailer accident put me thoroughly off trailers, worked out is cheaper to use transporter 1x/every 1-2 months than keep lorry on road even without buying costs. even cheaper if split transport costs. nice to not have to worry about driving parking etc as well. controls my entries as well so have time to work on schooling in between ( not that you'd notice !).

I have the same problem, was sharing with a friend and giving her money towards running costs, fuel, tax and MOT and general up keep of her horsebox, my OH did work on the ramp and made it safe. She has now decided to sell, so no transport for me either. Got to start saving, but not that easy
