at our yard we have a lovely sand/rubber mix arena.

why oh why do people feel the need to churn it up (and i mean literally to the foundations) by incessantly lunging thier horses which they never ride.

and........whenever I lunge, I do not make a perfect circular trench where I am lunging. I move around a bit!

Sorry for huge rant.......just fed up yet again I'm having to jump over bloody trenches to do flatwork. Yard owner wasnt around so couldnt get it harrowed. Its just really starting to pee me off, we have a lovely brand new arena which in all honesty I think will be ruined by this time next year. ARRRGGGHHHHHH!!!!

We aren't allowed to lunge in our school for that reason. We do have a lunge pen though. I can understand why you are annoyed.

I agree with you. My YO isn't happy about us lunging in the school but allows us to do it providing we don't stay in the same spot.I start at one end of the school and finish at the other !

When my daughter lumges she uses the entire length of the school & when you do that there is little damage done. There are others that insist on standing glued to the spot cutting up the school. It annoys me because i'm the one that does the harrowing of the school.

have a private word with the YO about how a person you know had their brand new surface RUINED and the membrane pulled up etc etc by people lungeing like this. soon you will have a nice new lunge pen or a rule that says you have to lunge considerately up and down the school. annoyes me too- idiots on old yard always did it with their horses that they were terrified of- they used to chase them round so that the surface got really churned up
