Lace can be like that so we've got a back person coming out soon. A pony on the yard was grumpy when having their girth done up and the back person said she had some sore muscles. A massage from her and regular massages from her owner and she is now fine about it.
Lace though is like Naomi Campbell - tall, leggy, georgeous but can be stroppy at times such as when doing rugs, tightening girth
(she's not nasty with it, and doesn't throw mobile phones luckily..)
No, seriously, some are more sensitive than others/their rugs or tack doesn't fit or is uncomfortable/they don't want to get changed/get out of bed/go to work, or...are just grumps.
mines like this permanently not just with rugs. Shes grumpy at the best of times, even when she knows im going to feed her she pulls faces. Shes just a moody old bag
depends what moods shes in, normally baggage mood but she does have nice days (not always that frequent) when she doesnt follow you with her ears pinned back but stands with her head resting on my shoulder whilst im poo picking
i think she cant be arsed being nice as its much easier to be grumpy

Why do some horses put their ears back and generally grumpy when changing rugs/ doing up grith?
[/ QUOTE ]
Because they are uncomfortable.
Horses have a nerve very close to the skin in the girth area, which can be very sensitive. Some people are less than careful when putting on rugs/girthing up and throw rugs at the horse or pull the girth up quickly. Some horses have come to expect rough treatment and are 'getting their protest in first'.
