Following on from Lec's thread but turning it around - as this is the worst time of year for horsey folk with so few daylight hours what makes you happy and sees you through to the better days?

I'll go first, if I may ;):D

1) The new Neddie and two girls tucked up in their beds at night.

2) More time with the family as less time for horse activities (not sure how long that will last though ;))

3) For happy, healthy children

4) Very good circle of supportive friends

5) Going to Olympia on Sunday

6) Alchohol, particuarly like this one :D:D

Without being smug (Sorry Baydale!) it takes a lot to make me grumpy, but two things guaranteed to always cheer me up,
- The big, hairy, muddy beast. He is still my favourite pony and always makes me smile! :D
- The new girl and the joyous whinny I get everytime she spots me :D :D

hmmmm:

1) snow days when i get the day off work- bonus!
2) breaking up tomorrow for two weeks off!
3) it being perfectly acceptable to spend all day in your pjs and wrapped in a duvet because it might be real flu dont'cha know :D;)

Let's think...

The love of a retarded and dim but loveable Jack Russell
Hearing how horses we've sold are happy with their new families and vice versa
Our old pony's huge ears
My v expensive Costa latte when I reach work each morning
Reading Famous Five to the little one at bed time
Prospect of 2 weeks off work over xmas without having to take any holidays
:)

Yeah you are, stop it, stop it now. :D Don't forget you're talking to the original soppy cow who lurves hers, so I'll forgive you your smugly happy post.;)

As possibly one of the grumpiest old bags on the forum - not much! :p

However I might just admit to being happy when I have my breakfast at 8am knowing that everything's mucked out, exercised and fed and tucked up back in bed with a full haynet (everything apart from me who has to go to work! :mad:). That, and bedtime!

Oh, nothing makes tea and toast taste better than knowing your ponies are done for the morning! I always feel slightly smug knowing that I have been up, mucked out etc before my friends have even woken up.

And bedtime definitely makes me happy! :D

Now now GB don't let this thread descend into exciting bedroom activities :rolleyes::p

My youngster - if you had to draw a pic of me to sum up this winter, all you need is a pic of a trapper hat with a red, drippy nose and a big smiley grin underneath it.
It's a long time since I've had a horse that was so keen to have a go at everything, from having his bridle put on, to cantering wobbly lines up the school with his trainer, to investigating and destroying the grooming box :)
I have to witter on about him at great length to my OH, otherwise he might think I'm having an affair!

From my whisky/Nightnurse induced state I think what makes me happy is just being able to see my horses without collapsing and having hallucinations. Yep, bad bout of flu, which is free to anyone who wants to take it from me.

Cant wait to see my little fat black cob, who thinks he is in retirement (little does he know), my gorgeous little be atch of an event mare, who is hating being confined to barracks and seeing our little loan girlie, who is the sweetest thing ever. On top of that, I think I may get excited about xmas at some time, now that the drug induced fug is starting to recede. Oh god, the drugs and illness have got to me............

Everyone only 4 days until the shortest day and then things can only get bettttttterrrrrr!

Or worse :(
It all depends on your point of view. :( :(

What makes me happy? (I presuming its meant to be horsey)
Seeing Beau and his shiny coat :)
Having a good ride - on anything. Always cheers me up no end.
Lovely green fields with decent (jump-able ;) ) fencing and happy horses in them.

Being a miserable cowbag at the moment, but digging deep into the dusty box marked 'Happiness is...', here's mine:

When we arrive at the yard and the whole herd wanders up (okay, I know it's because it's feeding time, but hey);

When the Dizz rests her head in my arms;

When I'm brushing Dizzy's mane and forlock and she half falls asleep;

Seeing Little Cob moving so much easier now;

Seeing the grin on D1's face when she's riding Grey Mare;

Seeing the pictures D2 has taken - such joy in the composition, such skill in one so young;

Hearing D talk about the horses as though he really does love them (which I have a sneeking suspision he does);

A car full of kids and a brilliant song sung at full belt;

And having a husband who, when he knows I am hurting, does all he can to make life better.
