Still engaging in research ;)

Found this, http://dogworld.co.uk/Features/39-trumpeter-(1)?year=2009&month=09

Is this really so?
"But I gather that, even at the recent so-called British Sieger event for GSDs, the judges were expressing some concern about weak hindquarters.
We could all take the writer of the piece I referred to initially to almost any GSD ring and point out dozens of dogs with weak hocks."

The British Sieger 2010 has not happened yet.

Although seeing as this editorial is dated September 2009, I suppose they are referring to last year's.

It's not the so-called British Sieger, it IS the British Sieger, some people can't handle that German-style events being run under SV regulations are taking place with great success on Engerlish soil.

I can't see any of the dogs who passed the courage test, which includes the long attack, or those who did well in the off-lead gaiting having wobbly hocks!

I was not there, and neither was the writer, seemingly.

More "I read" "I gather"..."I heard" "someone told me" - tis getting a bit boring.

Honestly, at any show I go to, I would see maybe, four or five in the entry with weak/wobbly hocks and they are at the bottom of the line and usually young IE they will firm up in time.

Yeah, people can stand on the sidelines and bitch, or people can make things better, they can promote the correct type of dog in their judging, breeding, purchasing.

The critiques for and opinions on the 2009 British Sieger are easy to find.

CCs are CCs - some people hold more score in G, SG, V and VA ratings. Some people prefer to have their dogs health tested and put working qualifications on them before they go into the top classes - so that the all-round dog is promoted, not just one who looks nice going round in a circle in the ring.

Well this is what I thought, of course you have bad apples in any showring but I would have thought the people at a British Sieger show are the real deal and I am sure wobbly hocks would have lasted long against people showing high quality dogs like the ones I'd expect to be at a BS event.

Out of interest, what did you think of the standard at the Two Day National?

I think people need to stop this uninformed carping and educate themselves, as you are doing.

What can possibly be gained and achieved with sniping?

The only way people can see the true, real picture is to go to shows, go to trials, go to training clubs and see with their eyes and hear with their ears what is really going on, as well as reading and researching as much as they can.

Again I would extend an open invitation to anyone who thinks breed ring GSDs cannot work, or that working line dogs are not correctly constructed or cannot do well in the breed ring, to come to a club like ours and see for themselves.

The dog who got the biggest round of applause at our show a couple of months ago was not the winner, he was a working line dog who came fourth, he has been breed surveyed, Class 1 in Germany and that day received a V rating in the breed ring, he is also a Schutzhund III dog who has trialled all over the world and produces flawless routines. Hardly a cripple!!! And a complete pussycat off the field.

The German system is not in opposition to the English system, it is simply an alternative.

The two day national was the one where I met Jackie yeah?

If so I was blown away by the dogs there! It really did excite me to the prospect of when I will get my own. There were some absolutely awesome dogs there and we weren't even there long. Most notably a few "big" dogs who were very happilly moving shall we say!

That article is old news, the writer was known for anonymous s**t stirring, and I am pretty sure DW have now dispensed with his/her services. I think they are an employee of the KC and lets face it they take every opportunity to have a dig at the GSD.

Oh, I didnt realise it had already come up MM - sorry, just been looking through some articles and found it a bit contentious even to my newbie silly brain!

No I didn't mean old news on here, just in the GSD world. If you do a bit of searching you will find plenty of people causing trouble for GSDs, usually they have never had anything to do with them so not sure what their agenda is:confused:

Ohhh!

Even to me, the main lot of dodgy looking GSDs (god bless them) are badbly bred dogs, the type you can tell just looking at them who have been bred from albeit much beloved pets or ones who were just churned out for cash. The ones I have looked at from good breeders and at shows etc all look endlessly athletic and fit for purpose!

And usually people who have never set foot at a GSD breed show or trial in their lives....I don't actually CARE about what happens in other breed rings, I care about my breed, selfish perhaps but I throw all my time and energy into my own breed to help make improvements and I wish people would get their own houses in order, they must have a lot of time to complain about a breed they don't even like or think of as crippled or useless, but don't take the time to insist on health tests or working qualifications for their own dogs like a lot of GSD people do, I personally don't have time to get disgusted about other breeds.
But I am tickled that people care so much about GSDs! Must mean they are regarded as awfully important indeed :D
