Would love at some time in the near future to get another GSD pup. One concern is that my grandsons aged 3 & 4 live in France and only visit every 3 months or so. How safe would it be to have a GSD who has not been constantly in their company? Previous lovely bitch was brought up with my children, so no problem.

Hiya, i have a German Shepherd and a crossbreed and would have to say that i wouldn't be concerned at all. I really believe that it's nothing to do with what breed your dog is it's just how you bring them up. I have a son who is five now and my crossbreed is 12, he was never around children until i had my son, my German Shepherd is nearly 6 and i've had him since i was pregnant. Neither dog has ever been anything but brilliant with him, even when he was at the fur pulling stage!

As long as you get the pup out and about, maybe up to the local school, fetes, markets etc so it gets to see and meet lots of people it will be fine as long as you buy a pup with good tempered parentage behind it.

GSDs are great with children. My mum and dad have had them for years ever since our first one followed me home as a child!!!! The previous one we had guarded the grand children as if they were her own puppies. The only one we had which you couldnt really trust was a highly bred show dog with a heart problem (hence why my parents had him- they rescued GSDs). He was pts at 3. It was really a bad problem!

George, our first one, was the best ever and just adored children. Well, they would play for hours wouldnt they! He had more christmas presents from the local kids than we ever had!!!!
