Hi,

Never posted in here before but wondered if I could ask for some suggestions please. I own a GSD who is at least 9, he has a split nostril. He has had it for over 12 months now, I have taken him to the vets about it and they have said that it should heal itself in time.

He had bloods taken about 10 months ago as he appeared to have lost his va va voom however after having numerous tests done they turned up nothing and by a process of elimination it appeared that he had some inflammation somewhere and was treated with cartrophen injections and returned to his normal self.

Because it is in reach of his tongue I am loathed to put anything on it but I would really like to encourage it to heal. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Do you know of anything that we could try to put on it that is safe and would encourage it to heal?

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thank you.

Don't know if it would work for your lad, but when Buffy had a lump removed from her tail last year it wouldn't heal cos she kept chewing at it. I decided to try manuka honey, with reservations as I thought it would encourage her to lick it . Although she did still lick her tail it started healing and closed up very quickly. I also put some honey in her water bowl. It might be worth trying, although if it encourages him to lick more you might just have to put it in his water. I used to put it on her tail before we went for a walk, so it had chance to work whilst she was not thinking about it. You have to use the strong honey, I think its over 10 if I remember rightly.

Thank you for that, I do have some of manuka honey but will have to check its strength?

Thank you for the idea, will let you know how we get on!.
