I'm interested in a Barleyarch GSP puppy but on entering the particular parents into KC mate program, the inbreeding coefficient is 14.something % and breed average is 5.3%. They have a great reputation(and state on website they are careful with their breeding) & multiple winning dogs,so should I be concerned?

The KC mate select programme should be thrown out. It is just numbers, far from accurate and has no place in good breeding.
It is just a sop to mediocrity.

An IC of 14 ish is normal in many breeds and the average for GSP cannot be accurate as imports don't get counted. You could have two imported sibling grandparents and they would count as zero. You could also have a low IC where all the dogs on the pedigree are rubbish.

Absolutely. I can only add that it is the KC that should be thrown out, along with it's fancy notions!

Garbage in, garbage out. Whatever the breeding system it is the selection of what you breed from that matters, so look at the dogs rather than statistics.

The dogs themselves are fab,so I'll go with my initial assessment and ignore the KC mate then! Thanku for your replies:)
